It's All In How You Handle It

It's All In How You Handle It

Let’s be honest, there are no fearless leaders out there. Fear comes to us all, and it can be a paralyzing thing. But great leaders learn how to address and control their fears, instead of letting fear control them.

One of the things I teach in my EntreLeadership Master Series is how to react to fear. With that in mind, here are a couple of tips for tackling fearful situations within your organization:

Always plan ahead

Don’t make the mistake of letting your initial business plan be the only plan you have. Smart entrepreneurs lay out strategies in advance for best and worst-case scenarios.

Always take into account a worst-case scenario when looking at your company’s future, and when exploring new projects or options. It’s easy (and fun) to plan for a successful future. But taking time to address all areas of your business from a worst-case perspective ahead of time will make it easier to address negative things in a thoughtful, logical manner.

Get another point of view

Find a successful and experienced business mentor who has been through tough times, and discuss your fears and concerns with them. It will help just hearing that someone else has experienced what you’re going through. Plus, you’ll gain valuable insight through another person’s point of view.

And who knows? After a thorough discussion of the matter with an objective outside party, you may just discover your situation is lots more manageable than you previously thought.

Remember, there will always be fears associated with your endeavour. It’s part of the job description for an entrepreneur. It’s how you handle — and prepare for — these fears that could mean the difference between success and failure!
